From that first approach up the long, winding drive, to the warm welcome and growing awareness of the special nature of the cottage and the grounds, I felt the detritus of city stress slip away. The first time I walked the big loop trail, I was captivated. I was there at the height of the fall colours and the light that filtered down through the canopy of yellow leaves seemed to flow right through me, washing away anything that wasn’t important. I walked that trail many more times. I looked up, I looked down, I looked forward. I sat in the afternoons and wrote and wrote. I cannot believe this week of bliss was made possible and I am so grateful I got to experience it.”
